More Than Enough

Society says that when you have this much money, these kind of friends, the perfect career and body shape, THEN you'll finally feel happy and fulfilled. Do you find there is this underlying current and pull of “I NEED MORE“ when it comes to living in todays society?
I recently entered into Wairarapa Bride Of The Year. As skeptical as I was, I decided it was a one off opportunity to take up, why not have a fun night out with friends!
Sounds simple right? For me it didn't take long to realise there was a lot more to organise than I originally had anticipated. When I tried the dress on again I couldn't quite button it up. SURPRISE! I gained some weight. This left me disappointed as I felt pressure to solve the issue fast. However, to look the same as I did 6 months ago in less than 30 days was seriously unrealistic for me. Thankfully I was in a good frame of mind not to do anything silly or unrealistic.
While I made some special effort to lose weight, I challenged myself to have a mindset that didn't break my peace leading up to the evening. I made a conscious decision not to strive to lose weight because at the end of the day it isn't worth all my time and stress.
Lately I have felt the Holy Spirit remind me to be mindful of what I pursue. Is it a road of many distractions and wasted time? Is what I am pursuing trying to fill gap of I need more?
This gentle reminder bought my attention back to the fact that our God is all satisfying and fulfilling. He is the God of more than enough. This truth plays a big part in my everyday life, as I often reflect on what I am investing my time and money into, and what my motives are.
Maybe you have felt half empty for a long time and you are looking for ways to fill that need. Can I encourage you, don't let "THINGS" chase you down and rule your life. You're better than that because I truly believe that whatever we lack and whatever we are looking for, God fills and satisfies.
Bottom line is the things of this world will always be filled with distractions and pathways to more! But it'll never be enough or make us enough in the worlds eyes. Not compared to our God and how he sees you and I.
Hear me out, I am not saying He isn't asking you or I to avoid the good and healthy things in life. Like a fun night out at Bride of the Year, or an investment in better health - those are great things. But I can't help but think that when I let the things I am pursuing become something to make me feel 'adequate' or 'fulfilled' I am missing the point. That happiness no longer is enough to sustain, it becomes something we chase constantly, and that's exhausting!
I love this this verse in Psalm 107:9
- For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.
It tells me that as we find our "enough" in God, He only fills us with things good for us!
So, what next? Bring God into your everyday life, let Him settle and fill your soul. Don't just chase the next big thing because it's there. Chase wisdom, and find that grounding in who you are.
Love ya'll!
Be encouraged :)
